ZOTAC MEK – 9800X3D + RTX 5090 Overview

If your goal is to get the fastest gaming PC ZOTAC currently offers, this MEK configuration is the obvious choice.

It pairs AMD’s Ryzen 7 9800X3D with NVIDIA’s flagship RTX 5090. That’s about as strong of a gaming CPU/GPU combination as you could ask for.

The 9800X3D’s 3D V-Cache makes it especially strong in CPU-heavy games and competitive titles where you’re trying to push extremely high framerates. Meanwhile, the RTX 5090 is built for the opposite end of the spectrum: demanding games at 4K with the settings turned all the way up.

The RTX 5090 also comes with a massive 32GB of GDDR7 VRAM, which gives it substantially more graphics memory than the other GPUs in NVIDIA’s RTX 50-series lineup.

ZOTAC rounds the system out with 32GB of DDR5 memory, a 2TB NVME SSD, a 360mm AIO liquid cooler, and a 1200-watt 80+ Gold-rated power supply. The system also includes WiFi 7.

There really isn’t much to complain about from a hardware standpoint.

The obvious downside is the price. An RTX 5090 gaming PC is going to cost significantly more than an already-powerful RTX 5080 system, and the real-world difference won’t justify that premium for most gamers.

But if you’re looking for an RTX 5090 gaming PC and your priority is getting the fastest system possible, this is ZOTAC’s top option.

ZOTAC MEK – 9800X3D + RTX 5080 Overview

Of all of the ZOTAC gaming PCs currently available, this is probably the one we’d recommend most to gamers with a large budget.

ZOTAC’s previous RTX 5080 MEK configuration paired the GPU with the Ryzen 7 9700X. The newer version upgrades the processor to AMD’s Ryzen 7 9800X3D, giving this system one of the best gaming processors available.

That’s an important upgrade.

At 4K resolution, your graphics card will still have the biggest impact on performance in most games. However, the 9800X3D can provide a significant advantage in CPU-heavy games and is especially useful if you also plan on playing competitive games at high refresh rates.

Of course, the real star here is NVIDIA’s RTX 5080.

The RTX 5080 is powerful enough to handle demanding games at 4K and is complete overkill for most 1440P gaming scenarios. You also get access to NVIDIA’s latest DLSS features, including Multi Frame Generation, which can help push framerates significantly higher in supported games.

The rest of the configuration is appropriately high-end as well. It comes with 32GB of DDR5-6000 memory, a 2TB NVME SSD, an 850-watt Gold-rated power supply, and a 360mm AIO liquid cooler.

For most gamers considering a premium RTX 5080 gaming PC, this configuration makes far more sense than stepping all the way up to an RTX 5090.

You still get an elite gaming processor and excellent 4K performance, but without paying the enormous premium that comes with NVIDIA’s flagship GPU.

ZOTAC MEK – 9700X + RTX 5070 Ti Overview

If you’re looking for the best balance between high-end performance and price in ZOTAC’s current lineup, we’d start with this RTX 5070 Ti configuration.

The previous version of this system came with the Ryzen 5 7600X. ZOTAC has since upgraded the CPU to AMD’s Ryzen 7 9700X, giving you eight Zen 5 cores and 16 threads.

No, you don’t get the extra cache of the 9800X3D found in the more expensive systems above, but the 9700X is still a very capable gaming processor.

More importantly, this PC comes with NVIDIA’s RTX 5070 Ti. If you’re considering other options with this GPU, we’ve also put together a guide to the best RTX 5070 Ti prebuilt gaming PCs.

The RTX 5070 Ti’s 16GB of GDDR7 VRAM makes it a particularly attractive option for high-end 1440P gaming. It is also capable of running games at 4K, especially if you’re willing to use DLSS or adjust some more demanding graphics settings.

In our opinion, though, 1440P is where a system like this makes the most sense. Pair it with a high-refresh-rate 1440P monitor and you’ll have enough GPU power to take advantage of that higher refresh rate in a wide range of games.

ZOTAC has also included 32GB of DDR5-6000 RAM, a 360mm AIO liquid cooler, and a 750-watt Gold-rated power supply.

The one area where we’d like to see more is storage.

This configuration only comes with a 1TB NVME SSD, whereas the two more expensive systems above include 2TB drives. One terabyte is certainly enough to get started, but modern games can eat through that capacity pretty quickly.

Still, additional storage is relatively easy to add later.

Overall, the Ryzen 7 9700X and RTX 5070 Ti combination gives this MEK configuration enough performance to satisfy the vast majority of gamers without forcing you into RTX 5080 or RTX 5090 pricing.

ZOTAC MEK – 9700X + RTX 5070 Overview

Stepping down one tier brings us to this Ryzen 7 9700X and RTX 5070 version of ZOTAC’s MEK gaming desktop.

Like the RTX 5070 Ti configuration above, this system has received a significant CPU upgrade over the previous version. Instead of the older Ryzen 5 7600X, you now get AMD’s Ryzen 7 9700X.

That gives you an excellent all-around processor that is capable of handling gaming, streaming, content creation, and other demanding workloads.

For graphics, the RTX 5070 is best suited for 1440P gaming.

It has more than enough power to handle modern games at 1440P with high settings and can also push high framerates in competitive titles. It can run games at 4K as well, although the RTX 5070 Ti and RTX 5080 are better suited for that resolution over the long term.

The biggest drawback with the RTX 5070 is its 12GB of VRAM.

That’s enough for the vast majority of current gaming scenarios, but we would have preferred to see more graphics memory on a GPU in this performance class. If you’re trying to decide between this system and the RTX 5070 Ti configuration above, the Ti model’s 16GB of VRAM is one reason why we’d pay extra for it if the price difference is reasonable.

Still, there’s plenty to like about this system.

Along with the 9700X and RTX 5070, you get 32GB of DDR5-6000 memory, a 1TB NVME SSD, a 750-watt Gold-rated power supply, and a 360mm AIO cooler.

If you’re primarily looking for a powerful 1440P gaming PC and the RTX 5070 Ti configuration costs more than you’d like to spend, this MEK setup is a solid alternative.

ZOTAC MEK – 9600X + RTX 5060 Overview

At the more affordable end of ZOTAC’s lineup is this Ryzen 5 9600X and RTX 5060 configuration.

This is another system that has received a worthwhile CPU upgrade since we last updated this guide.

The previous configuration came with AMD’s Ryzen 5 7600. The newer model uses the Ryzen 5 9600X, a six-core, 12-thread AM5 processor that provides plenty of processing power for a mid-range gaming PC.

The RTX 5060 isn’t intended to compete with the monster GPUs featured in the systems above, but it’s a good fit for 1080P gaming.

If you’re playing on a 1080P display, this setup will run virtually any modern game and will be especially well-suited for competitive titles where you’re looking to achieve higher framerates.

You can also use it for 1440P gaming, particularly with DLSS enabled, but we’d recommend stepping up to the RTX 5070 if 1440P will be your primary resolution.

There are two limitations worth pointing out.

First, the RTX 5060 only has 8GB of VRAM. Second, this configuration only includes 16GB of DDR5 memory.

Sixteen gigabytes is still enough to run games, but 32GB has become the more comfortable target for a new gaming PC. Fortunately, system memory is one of the easiest components to upgrade later.

You do get a full 1TB NVME SSD and a 650-watt 80+ Gold-rated power supply, and this model uses a tower-style CPU air cooler rather than the 360mm AIOs found in ZOTAC’s more expensive systems.

Another advantage is that this system is built on AMD’s AM5 platform, leaving you with a much better CPU upgrade path than an older AM4-based budget prebuilt.

So, if you want one of ZOTAC’s gaming PCs but don’t need the horsepower of an RTX 5070 or better, this Ryzen 5 9600X/RTX 5060 configuration is the place we’d start.
