9 Best Gaming Monitors for 2022

Best Gaming Monitor for 2021We rated, reviewed, & compared 9 gaming monitors to help you find the best option for your budget and needs. Whether you’re looking for a 4K gaming monitor, a 360Hz gaming monitor, or a budget-friendly gaming monitor, there’s an option for you.

Even if you have the best gaming desktop in the world, it will be all for not if you are hooking it up to a low-quality monitor. Your monitor is essentially the place where you will see all of the hard work that you put into your gaming computer pay off. And, not all monitors are created equal.

If you’re going to go all out and build a high-end gaming computer, then you definitely don’t want to go with a monitor that has less than 1920×1080 resolution. In fact, if you’re spending over $1,000 on your gaming PC, you are probably not getting your money’s worth with anything less than 1440p—or a 360Hz 1080p monitor.

On the other hand, if you are working with a tight budget and you need an affordable monitor to pair with your cheap PC gaming setup, then you’ll want to look at a budget-friendly 1080P option.

1. Samsung Odyssey G7 27″

The best G-Sync gaming monitor

SAMSUNG Odyssey G7 Series 27-Inch WQHD (560x1440 Gaming Monitor
  • 2560 x 1440 Resolution
  • 240Hz Refresh Rate
  • 1ms Response Time

Our Rating: 9.4/10

Samsung’s Odyssey G7 is an excellent option if you’re looking for a high-end gaming monitor to pair with an NVIDIA-based gaming PC. It is a 27-inch display that offers a 1440P resolution, a 240Hz refresh rate, a 1ms response time, and it comes with NVIDIA’s G-Sync technology.

There are a bunch of other options out there that offer a 1440P 144Hz+ display. However, the Samsung Odyssey G7 is currently one of the only options that offers the combination of a faster 240Hz refresh rate, NVIDIA’s G-Sync technology, and a 1440P resolution display.

As of right now, a 1440P 144Hz+ monitor seems to be the sweet spot for gaming monitors for people who have high-end systems. There are 4K 144Hz monitors for gamers who have extreme PCs and 1080P 360Hz+ monitors for ultra competitive gamers who need as fast of a monitor as possible. And, while the 240Hz refresh rate that the Odyssey G7 comes with might not provide a significant advantage over a 144Hz refresh rate, the prices aren’t so different between 1440P 144Hz monitors and 1440P 240Hz monitors that you can save a lot by opting for a slower 144Hz display. So, you might as well pony up the extra money and get the higher refresh rate.

But, for most gamers who have a powerful gaming PC, a 1440P 144Hz+ monitor offers the best of all worlds—a higher resolution, a fast refresh rate, and a decent pricetag. And, of the 1440P 144Hz+ G-Sync monitors out there, as of right now, we like the price-to-performance that the Samsung Odyssey G7 currently offers the most.

2. Acer Nitro XV272U 27″

The top FreeSync gaming monitor

Acer Nitro XV272U Xbmiipruzx 27-Inch Monitor
  • 2560 x 1440 Resolution
  • 270Hz Refresh Rate
  • 1ms Response Time
  • FreeSync Ready

If you have a gaming PC that has a high-end AMD graphics card inside of it and you’re looking for a 1440P 144Hz+ monitor to pair it with, this Acer monitor would be a solid option.

The AORUS FI27Q is a 27-inch display that offers a 2560 x 1440 resolution, a 1ms response time, and AMD’s FreeSync technology. And, like the Samsung monitor listed above, this Acer Nitro gaming monitor offers and even faster 270Hz refresh rate.

Overall, the higher resolution and refresh rate will pair well with a powerful AMD graphics card to deliver an optimal in-game experience. The FI27Q’s ~$680 pricetag is a bit cheaper than the Samsung Odyssey G7 listed above, too, so if you haven’t decided on a graphics card yet, it wouldn’t be a bad option to opt for an AMD-based card to save a little bit of money.

3. MSI Oculux NXG253R 25″

The fastest gaming monitor

MSI Oculux NXG253R 25-Inch 360Hz Gaming Monitor
  • 1920 x 1080 Resolution
  • 360Hz Refresh Rate
  • 1ms Response Time
  • G-Sync Ready

Our Rating: 9.4/10

For the ultra-competitive gamers out there who require the fastest refresh rate possible, the MSI Oculux NXG253R offers an insane 360Hz refresh rate.

The MSI Oculux NXG253R is a 25-inch monitor, it has a 1920 x 1080 resolution, a 1ms response time, and it comes with NVIDIA’s G-Sync technology.

Most gamers won’t have the need for a 360Hz refresh rate. But, for gamers who play competitive shooters, where every split second can be the difference between winning and losing, the higher refresh rate that the MSI Oculux NXG253R can help give you an edge.

Of course, you could opt for a 240Hz refresh rate display (like the VIOTEK GFT27CXB listed in the Honorable Mentions section below) and save yourself a bit of money. And, in the grand scheme of things, the extra 120Hz of refresh rate probably won’t make a noticeable difference for all but the most extreme competitive gamers.

But, alas, if you don’t mind paying a premium to eke out every ounce of performance, the MSI Oculux NXG253R gaming monitor is a good option to consider.

4. Acer Predator XB273K 27″

The best 4K gaming monitor

Acer Predator XB273K
  • 3840 x 2160 Resolution
  • 144Hz Refresh Rate
  • 1ms Response Time
  • G-Sync Ready

Our Rating: 9.5/10

If you have a huge budget and you want a gaming monitor that can provide an insanely detailed picture as well as a smooth life-like experience, then Acer’s Predator XB273K is worth checking out.

The Acer Predator XB273 is a 27-inch 4K display that has a 1ms response time, a 144Hz refresh rate, and comes G-Sync ready.

It will take quite a powerful system to run a 4K 144Hz display, though. So, not only will you need to pay a premium (~$600) to get this monitor, but you’ll also have to spend quite a bit on a gaming PC to ensure you have enough power to take full advantage of it.

5. LG 38GL950G-B 38″

The best ultrawide gaming monitor

LG 38GL950G-B 38 Inch
  • 3840 X 1600 Resolution
  • 144Hz Refresh Rate
  • 1ms Response Time
  • G-Sync Ready

Our Rating: 9.6/10

If you’re like me, you like to have as much screen space as possible. And, while I prefer a multi-monitor setup, a single large ultrawide monitor can provide the same advantages, without having to purcahse and hookup multiple monitors.

Of the best ultrawide gaming monitors out there, perhaps none are more and extreme than the LG 38GL950G-B is a 38-inch curved ultrawide display that sports a 3840 x 1600 resolutions, a 144Hz refresh rate, a 1ms response time, and comes G-Sync ready.

The downside of this huge monitor, though, is the fact that it comes with a pricetag well north of $1,500

So, unless you have an unlimited budget and are willing to pay a high premium to obtain an extreme viewing experience, you might want to consider another option.

6. ASUS VG278QR 27″

Our favorite budget gaming monitor

Asus VG278QR
  • 1920 x 1080 Resolution
  • 165Hz Refresh Rate
  • 1ms Response Time
  • G-Sync Ready

Our Rating: 8.9/10

Check Price on Amazon

If you have a mid-range gaming PC with an NVIDIA graphics card in it, you probably want to look at a solid 1080P 144Hz+ G-Sync display like the ASUS VG278QR.

The VG278QR is a 27-inch monitor that has a 1920 x 1080 resolution, a 165Hz refresh rate, a 1ms response time, and comes G-Sync ready. It also comes in at a modest price of just ~$250.

Of course, there are cheaper 144Hz displays out there (see the Acer KG241Q listed below), but they likely won’t have G-Sync technology. If you have an AMD graphics card in your build, though, a lot of the cheaper 144Hz displays will come with FreeSync technology.

7. ASUS TUF VG27AQL1A 27″

Honorable mention #1

ASUS TUF Gaming VG27AQL1A
  • 2560 x 1440 Resolution
  • 170Hz Refresh Rate
  • 1ms Response Time
  • G-Sync Ready

Our Rating: 9.4/10

Check Price on Amazon

If you like the faster refresh rate on the Samsung Odyssey G7 but you don’t want to pay the enormous price tag, then the ASUS TUF VG27AQL1A is worth checking out.

The ASUS TUF VG27AQL1A comes in at over $300 cheaper than the G7. However, it offers essentially the same core specs: a 1440P resolution, its G-Sync ready, and it has a 1ms response time.

The main difference between the two displays is that the ASUS TUF VG27AQL1A can only hit refresh rate speeds of up to 170Hz, whereas the G7 can reach 240Hz.

That difference will be negligible in the grand scheme of things for the majority of gamers, so, if you don’t want to pay the huge premium for an extra 70Hz refresh rate, the ASUS TUF VG27AQL1A is a solid option.

8. VIOTEK GFT27CXB 27″

Honorable mention #2

VIOTEK GFT27CXB 27-Inch
  • 1920 x 1080 Resolution
  • 240Hz Refresh Rate
  • 1ms Response Time
  • G-Sync Ready

Our Rating: 9.3/10

Check Price on Amazon

A more affordable alternative for gamers who are looking for an ultrafast monitor is VIOTEK’s GFT27CXB. Unlike the 360Hz MSI Oculux NXG253R listed above, the VIOTEK GFT27CXB only sports a 240Hz refresh rate.

But, as we mentioned above, for most gamers—even the most competitive gamers—that 120Hz refresh rate probably won’t make a difference. So, unless you don’t mind spending an extra $200 to gain an additional 120Hz of refresh rate, you’d be fine choosing this display from VIOTEK over the more extreme MSI monitor.

Although, if you have the budget to upgrade and you don’t mind paying extra money for a slight performance increase, then the MSI display is probably the best gaming monitor option for you.

9. Acer KG241Q 24″

Honorable mention #3

Acer KG241Q
  • 1920 x 1080 Resolution
  • 144Hz Refresh Rate
  • 1ms Response Time
  • FreeSync Ready

Our Rating: 8.8/10

Another budget-friendly monitor option for gamers who have a mid-range gaming PC (or lower) is Acer’s KG241Q. At just over ~$180, it is the cheapest monitor on this list before.

And, at just 24-inches, it is also the smallest option. However, it does offer a 144Hz refresh rate and AMD’s FreeSynch technology.

So, if you have a AMD-based graphics card and you’re looking for an affordable monitor that will give you excellent performance, the KG241Q is worth checking out.

What is the Best Gaming Monitor?

Depending on your individual needs, the Samsung Odyssey G7 is the best overall gaming monitor right now. It’s 1440P 240Hz display provides the best of both worlds, with a higher resolution display and an ultra-fast refresh rate. However, if you’re a hardcore competitive gamer, the best gaming monitor for you would MSI’s Oculux NXG253R for its insanely fast 360Hz refresh rate.

For budget-oriented gamers, the ASUS VG278QR is probably the best gaming monitor option as it offers a 165Hz refresh rate for a very affordable price.

In the end, there are a lot of different gaming monitors out there that come with different screen sizes, resolutions, and refresh rates (to name a few important monitor features.) The gaming monitor that will be best for you will depend on what your budget is and what kind of in-game experience you’re looking for. In this post, we’ve highlighted a handful of the best options currently available to help you find the right monitor for your needs.
