Our current pick for the best Ryzen 7 laptop overall is the ASUS ROG Strix Scar 15 and that is mainly due to it being one of the only Ryzen 7 laptops to come with an RTX 3080 GPU—the most powerful laptop GPU on the market.

Along with the RTX 3080, the ROG Strix Scar 15 comes with an AMD Ryzen 7 5800H processor, 16GB of RAM, and a 1TB SSD. For the display, the Scar 15 sports a 15.6-inch 1080P screen with a 300Hz refresh rate. And, at just under ~$2,400 it is easily one of the cheaper RTX 3080 laptops currently on the market.

The combination of the Ryzen 7 processor, the RTX 3080 GPU, and the 1080P 300Hz display, make this laptop perfect for competitive gamers.

If you’re looking for a laptop that will deliver a higher resolution, though, you might want to check out the Lenovo Legion 5 Pro listed below, though.

Ultimately, the ASUS ROG Strix Scar 15 comes with a very powerful set of hardware and, for gamers, it will be able to max out anything you throw at it with ease.

2. Lenovo Legion 5 Pro

The best high-resolution high refresh rate option

Lenovo Legion 5 Pro Gen 6 Ryzen 7 Laptop
  • Ryzen 7 5800H
  • NVIDIA RTX 3060
  • 1600P / 165Hz
  • 16GB DDR4 RAM

Our Rating: 9.0/10

Lenovo’s Legion 5 Pro is another worthy option that comes with a very unique display. First off, the Legion 5 Pro’s display ditches the standard 16:9 aspect ratio and, instead, opts for the slightly larger 16:10 aspect ratio.

And, instead of going with a 1920 pixel width, it opts for a 2560 pixel width, giving it a 2560 x 1600 resolution screen. So, not only will you get a higher-than-1080P resolution, but you’ll get a little bit of extra screen real estate with the 16:10 aspect ratio.

Furthermore, the 16.0-inch display sports a 165Hz refresh rate as well. So, you aren’t sacrificing a ton of performance with the higher resolution display as well.

To push the 1600P display, the Legion 5 Pro comes with a Ryzen 7 5800H processor, an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 GPU, and 16GB of RAM. While the RTX 3060 isn’t as powerful as the RTX 3080 that comes in the ASUS ROG Strix Scar 15 listed above, it is still powerful enough to where you’ll be able to max out any game you throw at it.

This RTX 3060 gaming laptop comes in at just under ~$2,000, too. So, it is quite a bit cheaper than the Scar 15.

If you’re on the fence between the two options, you’ll have to decide what is more important to you: the extra GPU power and the 300Hz display, or the higher resolution 16:10 aspect ratio display and lower pricetag.

3. ASUS ROG Strix G17

The best 17-inch Ryzen 7 laptop

ASUS ROG Strix G17 Ryzen 7 Laptop
  • Ryzen 7 5800H
  • NVIDIA RTX 3060
  • 1080P / 144Hz
  • 16GB DDR4 RAM

Our Rating: 8.9/10

If you prefer a larger laptop display, the 17.3-inch screen on the ASUS ROG Strix G17 might catch your eye. The ROG Strix G17 comes in at just under ~$1,500, making it significantly cheaper than the two options listed above. And, in terms of core hardware, it has basically the same setup as the Lenovo Legion 5 Pro: an AMD Ryzen 7 5800H processor, a GeForce RTX 3060 GPU, and 16GB of RAM.

However, it does come with a lower resolution 1080P monitor that only has a 144Hz refresh rate (as compared to the 165Hz refresh rate on the 1600P display that the Legion 5 Pro comes with).

So, whether or not the ASUS ROG Strix G17 would be the better option for you will come down to, first, how much you have to spend, and, second, wehther or not you’d prefer a larger 17.3-inch display. We like the 1600P 165Hz display that the Legion 5 Pro comes with, but if you want to save ~$500, this ASUS gaming laptop will offer an excellent in-game experience as well.

4. HP OMEN 15

The best value option for a Ryzen 7 laptop

HP OMEN 15 Ryzen 7 Laptop
  • Ryzen 7 5800H
  • NVIDIA RTX 3060
  • 1080P / 144Hz
  • 16GB DDR4 RAM

Our Rating: 8.9/10

Another Ryzen 7 laptop option for just under ~$1,500 is HP’s Omen 15. It has basically the same hardware configuration as the ASUS ROG Strix G17 (a Ryzen 7 5800H processor, 16GB of RAM, an RTX 3060 GPU, and a 144Hz display), but it comes with a smaller 15.-6-inch display.

So, why choose this HP gaming laptop over the G17? While we’d pick the larger screen, many prefer their laptops to be lighter and more compact and, if that is the case for you, the Omen 15 is the better option.

However, if you’d prefer the larger screen, you’d be better of with the G17. Both options will deliver the same in-game performance, though, and both are powerful enough to handle anything you throw at them.

5. Lenovo Legion 5

A solid affordable Ryzen laptop for gamers

Lenovo Legion 5 15 Ryzen 7 Laptop
  • Ryzen 7 5800H
  • RTX 3050 Ti
  • 1080P / 120Hz
  • 16GB DDR4 RAM

Our Rating: 8.8/10

If you don’t have much over $1,000 to spend on a laptop, you are still in luck. The Lenovo Legion 5 comes in at a little over $1,000 and still comes with a Ryzen 7 5800H processor.

Along with the Ryzen 7 5800H, the Legion 5 comes with an RTX 3050 Ti GPU, 16GB of RAM, a 512GB SSD, and a 15.6-inch 1080P display that has a 120Hz refresh rate. That’s a solid offering for the price and the combination of the 3050 Ti, the Ryzen 7 5800H, and the 120Hz display.

Overall, this laptop will work perfectly for budget-oriented gamers who don’t have the thousands necessary to spend on a high-end gaming laptop, but who just need something that will allow thme to play they favorite games on medium-or-higher settings.
