It wasn’t too long ago that 4K gaming on a laptop was an absurd idea. However, with newer generation GPUs, 4K gaming laptops are as viable as ever. And, the ASUS ROG Zephyrus DUO SE 15 is perhaps the prime example of how well a 4K gaming laptop can run.

The Zephyrus Duo SE 15 comes with some serious hardware. It has an AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX processor, 32GB of RAM, and an RTX 3080 graphics card. That CPU-GPU-RAM combo will be good enough to push demanding titles on the Duo SE 15’s 15.6-inch 4K 120Hz display.

The Duo SE 15 also comes with a 2TB NVME SSD and a unique second utility display located above the keyboard.

The downside of this RTX 3080 laptop, though, is the price it comes in at. At just under $6,000, the Duo SE 15 is one of the most expensive gaming laptops on the market. And, at that price, it is hard to justify unless you have an unlimited budget. Still, though, if you want the ultimate 4K gaming experience on a laptop, there aren’t a whole lot of other options out there that will compare to the 4K Zephyrus Duo SE 15.

2. ASUS ROG Strix Scar 17 Review

The best 360Hz ASUS gaming laptop

ASUS ROG Strix Scar 17 360Hz
  • Ryzen 9 5900HX
  • NVIDIA RTX 3080
  • 1080P / 360Hz
  • 32GB DDR4 RAM

If you’re looking for a high-end gaming laptop, but you don’t want to spend the $6,000 to get the 4K gaming behemoth that is the Zephyrus Duo SE 15, for about ~$2,500 less you can land the ASUS ROG Strix Scar 17. And, depending on the types of games you’re playing, the Scar 17 might even be a better option for you than the Zephyrus Duo SE 15, price not considered.

That’s because, while the Scar 17 doesn’t have a 4K display, it does pair a 360Hz refresh rate with its 1080P resolution screen. While the difference in resolution isn’t ideal, the extremely fast refresh rate will be ideal for competitive gamers.

The ROG Strix Scar 17 also sports an AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX processor, 32GB of RAM, an RTX 3080 GPU, and a 2TB SSD. It’s 1080P 360Hz display is also of the larger 17.3-inch variety, so you’ll get a bigger screen as well.

Ultimately, if you’re looking for a top-of-the-line 360Hz gaming laptop to play competitive games on, the ASUS ROG Strix Scar 17 is an excellent option to check out.

3. ASUS ROG Zephyrus Review

The best 1440P ASUS laptop for gamers

  • Ryzen 9 5900HS
  • NVIDIA RTX 3070
  • 1440P / 165Hz
  • 16GB DDR4 RAM

Our Rating: 9.4/10

The standard ASUS ROG Zephyrus laptop serves as an excellent alternative to both of the laptops above. It doesn’t have the 4K display that the DUO SE 15 has, or the 360Hz refresh rate that the ROG Strix Scar 17 does, but its 1440P 165Hz display is a slight upgrade in refresh rate over the Duo SE 15 and a nice screen resolution upgrade over the Scar 17.

And, at just over $2,100, it is siginificantly less expensive than those two laptops.

The ROG Zephyrus doesn’t offer quite as high-end of hardware, though, offering an AMD Ryzen 9 5900HS processor, 16GB of RAM, and an RTX 3070 GPU. So, the CPU is slightly weaker, you get half the RAM, and you have to settle for the next tier down in GPU.

While that doesn’t sound ideal, the truth is that that combination is still incredible for a laptop and it will allow you to run pretty much anything on max settings.

So, if you’re looking for a more moderately-priced gaming laptop from ASUS, the standard ROG Zephyrus is worth checking out.

4. ASUS ROG Strix G17 Review

The top value gaming laptop from ASUS

ASUS ROG Strix G17 144Hz

  • NVIDIA RTX 3060
  • 1080P / 144Hz
  • 16GB DDR4 RAM

We’ve now highlighted a $6,000 ASUS gaming laptop, a $3,500 option, and one choice just over $2,000. Those systems all come with hefty pricetags and may not be in the cards for your budget. Fortunately, ASUS has a couple of solid laptops that won’t break the bank and will work well for gaming.

Our favorite value ASUS gaming laptop is the ROG Strix G17. At just under $1,500, the G17 sports an excellent CPU-GPU-RAM combination for the price. It comes with the same AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX that our top two picks come with, 16GB of RAM, and an RTX 3060 GPU. For the display, you get a larger 17.3-inch 1080P screen and it comes with a 144Hz refresh rate.

The combination of the GPU and display is good enough to where you won’t have to worry about what games you run. This laptop will be able to max out anything you throw at it.

So, the bottom line is that, you don’t have to spend over $2,000 in order to ensure that you get a gaming laptop that max everything out. The ROG Strix G17 offers the perfect tradeoff between price and performance.

5. ASUS TUF Dash 15 Review

The best budget ASUS gaming laptop

  • RTX 3050 Ti
  • 1080P / 144Hz
  • 8GB DDR4 RAM

Our Rating: 8.6/10

Even if you don’t have over $1,000 to spend on a new gaming laptop, ASUS has options that might work for you. The TUF Dash 15 is easily one of the best gaming laptops under $1,000 on the market. It comes with an Intel Core i7-11370H processor, an RTX 3050 Ti GPU, 8GB of RAM, and a 512GB NVME SSD.

It also sports a 15.6-inch 1080P 144Hz display. So, despite the lower pricetag, you still get a fast refresh rate.

Of course, the 8GB of RAM isn’t ideal. However, adding additional RAM to a laptop is fairly straightforward and isn’t a costly upgrade either. In fact, you could add an additional 8GB of RAM (bringing the total to 16GB) to this laptop and still come out with a total cost of under $1,000 (not including taxes.)

And, the combination of the i7-11370H and the RTX 3050 Ti are good enough to allow you to run any game on at least medium settings, with the majority of games on higher or max settings. That’s excellent performance for a sub-$1,000 laptop.

What is the Best ASUS Gaming Laptop?

The best ASUS gaming laptop right now is the ASUS ROG Strix Scar 17 or the ASUS ROG Zephyrus. The ROG Strix Scar 17’s 360Hz refresh rate will pair perfectly with competitive gamers and the 1440P 165Hz display on the ROG Zephyrus will offer a great mix between in-game performance and better visuals.

Ultimately, ASUS easily has some of the best gaming laptop options currently available. Whether you’re looking for an extreme 4K gaming laptop, an option for serious competitive gamers, or a budget-friendly laptop that will still max out your favorite games, ASUS has a product that will work for you.

1 thought on “5 Best ASUS Gaming Laptops for 2022 (4K, 360Hz, Budget)”

  1. All of these laptops are being refreshed in Q1 of 2022, specifically with RDNA2 and 12gen Intel parts, as well as 3080ti’s, and many more great features. Wait 3 months, and the laptops listed here will fall in price by 20% or so, and you can choose to get the new versions if you’d like. If you’re not convinced by me, you’re free to look at January 4th’s CES 2022 announcements made by ASUS.
