For graphics cards right now, the $300-$400 price range offers a few different solid GPU options, all from AMD: the RX 7700 XT, the RX 6800, and the RX 6750 X.
The 7700 XT is the best of the bunch, but the RX 6800 and RX 6750 XT aren’t that far behind and, in the case of the 6750 XT, it can be had for a lot less money.
In fact, the 6750 XT sits right at the ~$300 mark, and you can sometimes find option available for below $200.
Unfortunately, there are no great NVIDIA options in this price range. For NVIDIA options, you can either pay in low $400s to get the RTX 4060 Ti, or you can drop down into the $200-$300 price range and get the RTX 4060.
But, in this guide, we’ll be listing some of the best graphics cards currently available in the $300-$400 price range.
And if you need help choosing a graphics card, take a look at our graphics card buyer’s guide (or watch it below).
1. Gigabyte RX 7700 XT Gaming OC
The best graphics card under $400
CLOCK | 2599 MHz Boost |
VRAM | 12GB GDDR6 |
LENGTH | 302mm |
PSU | 700W Recommended |
PRICE | Amazon | Newegg |
If you read my guide on the best graphics cards in the $400-$500 price range, you’ll see I chose the Gigabyte Gaming OC 7800 XT as the top option there as well. With exception to the GPU itself, this is basically the same card.
The Gigabyte Gaming OC RX 7700 XT sports 12GB of VRAM, has a boost clock rate of 2599 MHz, and measures in at 302mm long. It requires a 700-watt power supply and dual 8-pin PCIe connections. And, for cooling, it comes with Gigabyte’s 3X WINDFORCE design.
In terms of performance, the 7700 XT will deliver excellent performance at 1080P resolution and will be able to run any game on a 1440P monitor as well.
There are other good 7700 XT options out there, though. XFX, Sapphire, ASUS, and ASRock all have solid RX 7700 XT offerings that are worth considering as well.
2. ASRock Challenger RX 7700 XT
Top sub-$400 RX 7700 XT for mini builds
CLOCK | 2584 MHz Boost |
VRAM | 12GB GDDR6 |
LENGTH | 266mm |
PSU | 700W Recommended |
PRICE | Amazon | Newegg |
If you’ve got around ~$400 to spend, but want a more compact graphics card for a mini-ITX build, then this ASRock RX 7700 XT might be a better option for you.
At 266mm long, it is much smaller than the other RX 7700 XTs on the market. And, with a 2584 MHz boost clock rate, it should offer solid performance out-of-the-box.
This card does only feature a dual-fan cooling configuration and it has a much thinner design than other 7700 XTs, both of which are factors that will reduce cooling performance a bit. This is to be expected out of a more compact card, though.
Overall, if you’re looking for a solid mid-range graphics card to put in a small form-factor system, this ASRock RX 7700 XT is worth checking out.
3. XFX Speedster SWFT319 RX 6800
The best NVIDIA graphics card under $500
CLOCK | 2105 MHz Boost |
VRAM | 16GB GDDR6 |
LENGTH | 340mm |
PSU | 750W Recommended |
PRICE | Amazon | Newegg |
This XFX RX 6800 is a great alternative to the RX 7700 XT if you want to save a little bit of money without sacrificing too much performance. And, really, this is one of the only RX 6800s that is still readily available to be purchased at online retailers.
The RX 6800 is also the only option in this price range that comes with 16GB of VRAM.
This specific RX 6800 is large, though, measuring in at 340mm long. So, you will definitely need to make sure your case can accommodate it. And, it requires a bigger power supply (750-watt minimum requirement from the manufacturer) as well.
Ultimately, even though the RX 6800 is an older generation GPU, it’s still plenty powerful enough to handle games at either 1080P or 1440P resolution. And, this XFX edition card is one of the last RX 6800s you can easily get your hands on.
4. XFX Speedster QICK319 RX 6750 XT
Best value graphics card in this price range
CLOCK | 2600 MHz Boost |
VRAM | 12GB GDDR6 |
LENGTH | 323mm |
PSU | 650W Recommended |
PRICE | Amazon | Newegg |
I recently put the XFX Speedster QICK319 RX 6750 XT into an $800 gaming PC build and was impressed with the results it delivered. The RX 6750 XT GPU is strong enough to handle games at both 1080P and 1440P resolution with a high average framerate.
This card comes with a 2600 MHz boost clock rate, sports 12GB of VRAM, measures in at 323mm long, and requires a minimum of a 650-watt power supply.
It also comes with XFX’s Ghost Thermal cooling configuration, which consists of three 13-blade fans, a 5-piece copper heatpip, and a ventilated metal backplate.
And, the best part about this card is that it can sometimes be had for under $300. At the time of writing this guide, though, it currently comes in at just over $300. If you want to see the full review on this card, check out the video below.
Conclusion
The $300-$400 is an AMD-dominated price range for GPUs, with very solid options in the RX 7700 XT, the RX 6800, and the RX 6750 XT.
All of these GPUs are excellent 1080P-performers and all will offer a decent entry-point into 1440P gaming.
And, it’s important to note that this isn’t the end-all list for the best graphics cards in this price range. Graphics card prices change frequently and if prices were to change on any of these cards, I may or may not still choose them over other worthy options.
If you have any questions about any of these cards, or on your PC build in general, post them in the comment section below.
