Secretlab Titan EVO Review 2023: An Awesome Gaming Chair (Still)

Secretlab Titan EVO Review 2022If you’re looking for a quality gaming chair, the Secretlab Titan EVO might be what you’re looking for. This review of the Secretlab Titan covers over fiver years of using the chair and highlights the positive experience I’ve had sitting in it.

I‘ve owned and sat in the original Secretlab Titan now for over five years. And, while I currently no longer use my Titan as a daily sitter (I’ve since switched to using a stand-up desk for work), I still use it in my dedicated gaming area.I’ve updated this review a number of times over the years and I don’t really think there’s much else to say about the Secretlab Titan that’s anything different from what I’ve said about it in past updates… it has worked very well for me. After five years, the chair is still in near perfect condition.

Furthermore, I have tested Secretlab’s updated versions of their chairs (my two oldest sons sit in newer Secretlab chairs), and, in my opinion, the company has only continued to improve on the quality of their products.

The bottom line is that, from my experience, I am happy to recommend a Secretlab chair to anyone who is in the market for a new gaming chair. I’ve covered my five-year experience with my Titan in the content below, so if you’re looking for an in-depth review on the Titan, keep reading.

Our Rating: 9.6/10

  • The chair has lasted FIVE years with no significant signs of wear or tear for me.

Cons

  • Like other premium gaming chairs, the Titan’s price tag will likely force some users to consider other options.
  • For anyone who is serious about their back health, gaming chairs don’t offer the ideal sitting experience. Secretlab’s ergonomic NeuChair is worth considering as an alternative.

UPDATE #4: Secretlab Releases the Titan EVO 2022 Lineup of Chairs

One of the things that has impressed me most with Secretlab is their willingness to listen to feedback and to continually try and improve their chairs. As I’ve mentioned below, I sat in the same Secretlab Titan chair for over four years and, in that time, Secretlab has upgraded their Titan series two different times.

Secretlab Titan EVO 2022

The Titan EVO 2022 lineup of chairs is their newest update.  The update consolidates the features of the Titan and Omega series chairs into a single chair, but with multiple sizing options. They’ve upgraded the PU leather option to their new NEO Hybrid Leatherette, upgraded their seat base, improved upon their lumbar adjustment feature, and have made slight adjustments to the aesthetics.

I haven’t had a chance to sit in the newest edition of chairs, but based on previouse series upgrades, I’m guessing you’ll want to go with their newer edition of chairs over their older ones. Check out the new EVO 2022 lineup of chairs here.

UPDATE #3: FOUR Years later with the Titan…

I’ve given 8-month and two month updates of my experience sitting in the Secretlab Titan. A lot has changed with Secretlab since I first got my Titan nearly four years ago. They’ve included a ton of new color schemes to their lineup, added an XL version of the Titan, and have completed revamped their chairs.

Secretlab Titan Gaming Chair Review
My Secretlab Titan has held up incredibly well in the nearly four years I’ve been sitting in it. No peeling leather, crumbling arm rest pads, or faulty functionality. The chair works, feels, and looks pretty much just as good as the day I got it.

But, what hasn’t changed is the quality of my chair. I’ve been sitting in the Titan for nearly four years (check the video above) and the chair has shown no visible signs of wear or tear. The PU leather is still in great shape. The lumbar support feature still works just fine. The padding on the arm rests are still in perfect condition. The colors and stitching still look sharp. And, all of the adjustability features are still working perfectly.

It’s hard to make recommendations on a product when you just pull them out of a box and use them for a week or so before offering your input. However, I can whole-heartedly recommend the Secretlab Titan, because I’ve use this product almost daily for nearly four years and it has treated me great. If you’re interested in getting a new gaming chair in 2022 and you’d like some advice: get a Secretlab chair.

UPDATE #2: TWO Years Sitting in the Titan…

I’ve been sitting in the Secretlab Titan for nearly two years now. And, I wanted to provide a quick update to this review before the Holiday season as I know a lot of you will be looking to get the Titan either for yourself, or as a gift for someone else.

Here’s the really simple update: the Titan is still holding up just fine.

There are no cracks in the arm rests. The PU Leather isn’t peeling. The adjustment features are still working fine. The seat cushion and backrest are still offering excellent support.

After nearly two years of sitting in the Titan for 8+ hours per day for 5-6 days per week, the Titan is still as nice and comfortable as the day I first got it.

Secretlab has also updated their entire lineup of chairs with the release of their 2020 series. The 2020 Series has brough the following improvements over the original chairs…

Secretlab 2020 Series Updates:

  • Improved cold-cure foam mix for more support and better comfort
  • Upgraded metal armrests (with PU padding)
  • Improved Secretlab PRIME 2.0 PU leather (4x stronger)
  • Memory foam head pillow
  • Extended 5-year warranty when you share a photo of your Titan on social media

UPDATE #1: How is the Secretlab Titan Holding Up After A YEAR?

Hey everyone, I hope all is well with you. Today, I wanted to come back around and give you a quick update on my experience sitting in the Secretlab Titan gaming chair.

I’ve been sitting in my Secretlab Titan now for over a year and that has given me a little bit more perspective on the kind of quality it offers than when I first reviewed it.

Secretlab Titan Updated Review
I’ve been sitting in the Titan gaming chair for over a year and it is still just as comfortable as the day I got it.

On my original review, people have asked me how the PU leather is holding up, if the material on the arm wrests is still intact, and if I still like sitting in the Titan. And, not to mention, Secretlab has released some different options on the Titan in that time span, and so I figured I’d give you an update on how the chair is holding up as well as the different options that are available on it now.

Again, Secretlab did send me this chair to review and if you do click on the links in this guide and end up purchasing the Titan, I will get an affiliate commission. Of course, you could always just go to Secretlab.co and buy the chair without going through my link. But, any commission I get does help me out, and it does allow me to continue holding giveaways. So, if you do end up purchasing this chair through our affiliate link, I really appreciate your support.

And if not, no big deal!

8-Month Updated Titan Review
While I would have picked the all-black version of the Titan if it were available back in March of last year, I really like the Stealth edition’s gold-stiched logos.

But, I do want to give you an updated look at the Titan and try and shed some light on the kind of experience I have gotten from it in sitting in it for the past year. And, hopefully that will help you determine whether or not this chair is right for you.

How Are the PU Leather and PU Arm Rests Holding Up?

First, how is the PU leather holding up? The synthetic leather on the Titan is holding up just fine for me. There’s no cracks or peeling or fading, or anything wrong with the leather. It’s perfect.

PU Leather Secretlab Titan
A lot of people have asked whether or not the PU leather on the Titan is still in good condition. I can safely say that it is still in perfect condition.

Now, PU leather is known to fade or crack or peel over time. And, there are people out there who avoid synthetic leather at all costs because they have had bad experiences with it in the past. And, if that’s the case for you, that’s completely fine.

Secretlab Softweave Series
For those of you that don’t like PU leather, Secretlab has recently introduced their Softweave material, which you can get on either the larger Titan or the smaller Omega. (The Softweave series does cost a bit more than the PU leather options, though.)

Secretlab did release a fabric-version of both their Titan and Omega series chairs, which they’re calling their Softweave series. They also offer genuine leather versions of both their Titan and Omega series chairs. I personally have not sat in either the Softweave series chair, or their genuine Napa leather series chairs, and both of them do cost more than the PU leather versions, but if you do want to avoid PU leather, Secretlab does offer alternative options.

Secretlab Arm Rests
Just like how the PU leather on my Titan is still in excellent condition, so, too, are the PU-coated armrests.

Also, on the material on the armrests, everything is still intact there as well. And, in fact, anything related to durability and built-quality, the Titan is not really any different than the day I got it.

Secretlab Titan Now Comes in All Black

Now, the one gripe I did have about the Titan when I first reviewed it is that there was no “all-black” version of the chair. I have the Stealth edition, which is black with red stitching and a gold stitched logo, but if I had the option to choose my ideal color scheme, I would have wanted a completely blacked out chair.

Secretlab Titan Black
Secretlab now offers both the Titan and the Omega in an all-black color scheme.

Secretlab didn’t have that at the time, but they do now offer an all-black color scheme for both their Titan and Omega series chairs. So, if you’re like me and you want an all-black color scheme, you can now get one.

A New Appreciation for Flatter-Style Seats

And, I think one other point that I wanted to make, that maybe I’m better able to make now that I’ve sat in a few different options, is that, with gaming chairs, one of the biggest knocks you’ll often hear on them is their bucket-style seats…

GTBEE Exaggerated Bucket Seat
A look at the “deep” bucket-style seat that is common on most racing-style gaming chairs. I find these types of seats to be restrictive and not very comfortable for long sitting sessions.

…and, to be honest, I agree. The bucket style seats just make you feel confined and aren’t really comfortable to sit with, especially if you like to sit with your legs spread further apart.

And, that’s one of the things that I love about the Titan. It doesn’t have exaggerated bucket-style seats, and that ultimately gives it a much wider and more comfortable seating base. The base isn’t perfectly flat—which I do think would be ideal—but it is pretty close and so you can sit with your legs wider than on some of the other options out there where the bucket-style seats won’t allow it.

Titan Gaming Chair's Flatter Base
The Secretlab Titan’s base is quite a bit flatter than the standard racing-style chairs and it gives you plenty of room for your legs.

There are other high-end gaming chairs that also offer seat bases that don’t have the overexaggerated bucket-style seats. I think Maxnomic or NeedForSeat offer a very similar model to the Titan, and I know DXRacer’s Big and Tall series comes with a flatter seat base, and I’m sure there are others as well.

Comparing the Titan to Other Racing Style Chairs
A side-by-side comparison of the Titan’s wider and flatter seat base and the GTRacing GTBEE’s more restrictive bucket-style seat.

The bottom line, though, is that if you are looking to get a racing-style gaming chair, just note that the options that come with deeper bucket style seats can be restrictive. But, if that’s not something you could handle, there are options that forego the bucket style seat to give you a wider base—the Secretlab Titan being one of them.

After A Year of Use, the Secretlab Titan is Still Going Strong

Ultimately, while the Titan may no longer give me that initial excitement that comes from having a brand new product, I still love the chair and it has exceeded my expectations.

So, I do recommend the Titan for medium to larger users who are looking for a racing-style gaming chair that will hold up well over time.

If you want to check out the Titan, you can use this link. That is an affiliate link and, again, I will get a commission if you do end up purchasing the Titan through my link. Of course, I greatly appreciate any support. But, you can always just go directly to secretlab.co and get the chair that way as well.

In any case, thank you for reading and I hope you found the updated version of this review helpful!

Secretlab Unboxing & Assembly

Before we get into how it feels to sit in the Secretlab Titan, as well as some of the other features it offers, I first wanted to go over the unboxing and assembly experience.

SecretLab Titan Unboxing

For the packaging, Secretlab put together a well-packed box and overall it was a nice unboxing experience. Everything was well-protected and covered up.

Assembling the chair wasn’t difficult at all. And, in fact, one of the coolest throw-ins for this chair was the large assembly instructions that came inside the box.

Assembly Instructions for the SecretLab Titan

I’m not talking a paper booklet with janky sketches of the assembly process…

I’m talking a huge poster board that has step-by-step instructions with actual pictures of the assembly process.

SecretLab Titan Assembly 1

And, Secretlab also has an assembly video that you can use to take you through the process as well.

SecretLab Titan Assembly 3

Ultimately, the assembly process took me about 20-30 minutes and was fairly painless.

Secretlab’s Titan Offers Great Comfort for A Racing Style Gaming Chair

SecretLab Titan Gaming Chair

Now in the week-plus that I’ve been sitting in the Titan, one of the things that I have noticed is that whenever I first sit in it at the beginning of the day, I just kind of get that feeling that I am sitting in something that is quality made.

Part of that could be because it’s still new to me and it’s exciting to have this big new awesome racing-style chair to sit in.

2-3 months down the road, who knows, that feeling will likely fade a bit, as the excitement of having a new chair dies down a bit.

But, the initial feeling of sitting down in this chair is a good one.

Some Thoughts on the Comfort Level of the Titan

Sitting in the SecretLab Titan

As for comfort, for me, I really enjoy sitting in the Titan. I work from home and I’ve been sitting in the Titan for ~7-8 hours per day since I got it.

Now, here’s the thing… with any type of chair review, when it comes to comfort, it’s really going to be hard for an individual reviewer to convey how the chair will feel for you.

Right? We all have different preferences and ideas on what makes a comfortable chair comfortable.

And, different body types and body sizes are going to feel differently depending on the chair.

Best PC Gaming Chair Under $500

But, with that being said, through the first 10 days of sitting in the Titan, the Titan is not only more comfortable than the chair I had previously been sitting in (a Space Seating Professional), but its other features and adjustment options make it a much superior sitting experience.

SecretLab Titan Recline

And, that, of course, is to be expected because the Titan is a $400 chair, and the SPACE Seating Professional is a ~$150 chair.

The Titan does have a sort of firmness to it. For me, though, it’s not an uncomfortable firmness, but rather one that feels supportive.

Ultimately, though, on the comfort, I couldn’t be happier with the Titan as of right now.

The Titan’s Lumbar Support Adjustment Feature

SecretLab Titan Lumbar Support Adjustment

The chair does also offer adjustable lumbar support through a resistance knob on the side of the chair.

I have been switching off from using the lumbar support at full resistance, and then every once in awhile I’ll drop it back down to zero resistance.

And, that’s because the chair I had before did not have a lumbar support adjustment feature, and so even though it is pretty comfortable utilizing the Titan’s lumbar support at full resistance, my body is not used to sitting like that, and I have gotten a little stiff after using it for extended periods.

But, ultimately, I have been using the lumbar support at full resistance for the majority of the time that I have been sitting in the Titan, and aside from a few instances where I’ve gotten a bit stiff while using it, it’s been great at helping me sit in a better position for long periods of time.

The Adjustment Options on the Titan are Excellent

SecretLab Titan Amber Gaming ChairOne of the coolest things about the Titan is how many different ways it can be adjusted.

From the arm rests, to its lumbar support (which we already covered), to it’s dual tilt/recline features, to its height, there are a lot of different ways that you can adjust this chair.

Height Adjustment and Base Tilt

Obviously, you can adjust the chair up and down with the right-hand lever beneath the seat. That’s pretty standard for any computer seat.

The lever on the left hand side (underneath the chair) activates the locking and unlocking mechanism that allows the chair to tilt at it’s base or keeps it locked in place.

(Check out the video at the top of the page to see how this feature works.)

I really like this feature, because when it is unlocked, I can rock back in forth in the chair. And I can also lock it either at a zero angle, or at a titled angle if want.

So, if I just want to kick back and relax and watch a YouTube video, or watch some Twitch streams, I can lock the chair’s base into at a tilted position and make it a more comfortable experience.

With that being said, though, from an ergonomics perspective, if you are going to sit for long periods of time at an angle, you might want to get some kind of foot stool to prop your feet up, as that will promote a better sitting posture.

Reclining the Titan

SecretLab Titan Gaming

Along with being able to tilt the chair at it’s base, you can also recline the chair back by using the lever on the right-hand side of the seat.

And, combined with the seat base being fully tilted back and the back reclined all the way, you can almost get into a fully horizontal position. And, for the most part, it is pretty darn comfortable to lay back in this position.

Again, though, if you are going to lay back in this chair for extended periods, from an ergonomics stand point, you’re going to need some way to prop your legs up.

Also, I said it in the initial look video, but I will probably not be lying back in this chair in the fully reclined and tilted position very often.

SecretLab Titan Nap

But, I have been using the chair at a slight recline and tilt on occassion, just to switch it up from sitting at a fully upright position.

So, if there’s some type of mundane task that I have to do, that doesn’t require a lot of thinking, but mostly mindless clicking, or if I’m playing a more content-oriented type of game, sitting at a slight recline makes the experience a bit more enjoyable as I’m able to get more comfortable.

Adjusting the Arm Rests

SecretLab Titan Arm Rests

The arm rests on the Secretlab Titan can be adjusted in quite a few different ways. In the First Look video I did, I covered all of those ways except for one.

But, again, let me just go over those adjusment options real quick.

First, the arm rests can be adjusted up and down.

Second, they can be adjusted forwards and backwards.

SecretLab Titan Arm Rest Pushed Back

They can also be adjusted side-to-side.

And, finally, they can be adjusted at an angle.

SecretLab Titan Arm Rests Angle

For me, since my keyboard tray sits pretty low, not only do I have the chair height at its lowest point, but also the arm rests at their lowest point as well.

I also have them at their narrowest width, and adjusted as far back as they can go. And, I haven’t really played with the angle adjustment, and I’m not quite sure what type of users would benefit from using them, but it is there nonetheless.

The Titan Comes With A Velour Head Pillow… And I Like It

SecretLab Titan Velour Pillow

The chair also comes with a velour pillow to give you some neck support.

I have never used a head pillow on any of the chairs I owned, and I honestly didn’t think I was going to use this pillow. But, I’ve found that in the reclined position, the addition of the pillow makes it much more comfortable.

The pillow is incredibly soft, and it has a strap around it that can slide around the top part of the chair, and so it can be adjusted depending on where your neck lines up with the chair.

I keep the pillow on at all times. In the upright position, it doesn’t come into contact with my head, as I sit a bit forward in my chair. But, in the recline position, I lay back onto the pillow and it is a really nice addition.

Some of the Not-So Negative Negatives of the Titan (or, Rather, Things To Consider)

Titan Ash Gaming ChairNow, there really isn’t a whole lot that I don’t like about this chair. And, some of the minor issues that I have ran into are not really the chair’s fault, but rather things that are based on my personal preference.

Bucket Seats Aren’t Ideal for “Wide” Sitters

So, the first thing that causes me a bit of a problem, is that I like to sit rather wide. And, really, without trying to be vulgar, what I mean by that is that I like to sit with my legs spread apart.

However, because this is a bucket style seat, the elevated edges make it kind of uncomfortable to sit like that for long periods of time, because my lower hamstrings rest on the edge when they are in that position.

I know from an ideal ergonomics standpoint, it is better to sit with your legs closer together. And, so this really isn’t the fault of the chair itself, but rather with the way I’ve become accustomed to sitting.

I do find that I keep reverting back to sitting with my legs further apart, but after awhile, I have to move my legs back inward.

So, maybe, the result will be that I am eventually able to adjust and start sitting with my legs closer together.

But, just note that if you like to sit wide, this chair, and really all other racing-style bucket seat chairs are going to be uncomfortable to sit in with your legs spread further apart, at least over long periods of time.

I’d Love A True All-Black Option

The other thing that I’d like to see Secretlab do, is to offer an all-black color scheme. I don’t hate the color scheme of this chair, but if I were to design the perfect color scheme for me, it would just be all black. No red stitching, the logo would be all black, or a shade lighter to stand out.

Now, this is just personal preference. And, I realize that the majority of these racing style chairs are pretty radical in their design choices. And, that’s just playing to their market.

Right, as gamers we love RGB lights, and bold colors, and what not. And, in fact, I’m probably the exception to that demographic.

I want an all black chair, whereas most of the people who are getting these chairs, like that they stand out, especially for those streamers and video content creators who want to add that element that a bright gaming chair offers their channels or streams.

But, I’d love to see a version of the Titan in all black. Just totally blacked out. That would be my ideal color scheme.

Again, that’s kind of just a personal preference thing. And, for the most part, I love the way the Titan looks. And, either way, it looks one hundred times cooler than the standard office chair I’ve been sitting in. So, aesthetically, it is still a significant upgrade for me.

Verdict: The Secretlab Titan is An Amazing Chair, Whether for Gaming or Office Use

SecretLab PC Gaming ChairOverall, my experience so far of sitting in the Secretlab Titan is incredibly positive. It’s still a bit early to 100% conclude that this is an amazing chair. I’d like to see how the Titan withstands months or even years of usage.

So, I’ll likely do a follow-up review in the future just to see how the Titan is holding up.

But, after sitting in it for over a week, my initial view is that this is a really solid chair.

Not every chair is going to offer the same experience for every individual. However, if I had to recommend a gaming chair for anyone, I’d definitely recommend the Titan. I love it so far, and I’m guessing that most of you will as well.

That will all hinge on whether you like the color schemes available for the Titan. (And, if you are looking for a chair in the $400 price range—this is not a cheap PC gaming chair.)

But, in any case, that wraps up this review. Thank you again to Secretlab for sending me the chair. And, more importantly, thank you to everyone who took the time to read it!
