How To Get Free Skins In Fortnite

How To Get Free Skins In Fortnite

Although Fortnite is a free to play game, it still makes an enormous amount of money. Rather than charging gamers an entry fee, Epic Games opts for completely optional cosmetic items that can be bought through their in-game store.

Skins are the most popular cosmetic purchases available on the Fortnite store, especially when there’s a major crossover with popular IPs like Marvel, or, more recently, Star Wars.

Every now and then, Epic Games allow players to get Fortnite skins for free. It doesn’t come around too often, and most of the time free skins are given away as part of an event. The most recent free Fortnite skin players could get their hands on was Ash-Sassin skin, which required players to complete a few challenges in exchange for a fire-themed bundle of cosmetic rewards. Unfortunately, this event was only available to PC players.

Shortly before that, Fortnite players could compete in the Chica Cup to obtain a free skin of Chica, the popular content creator. The free Chica skin is the latest skin to appear in the Fortnite Icon Series, where skins are themed around popular icons in the Fortnite community.

Unfortunately, there are no events currently happening in Fortnite that allow players to earn free skins. Don’t lose hope; if the previous season is anything to go by, we can expect Epic Games to run further free-skin events in the coming weeks.

Are There Any Other Ways To Get Free Skins In Fortnite?

Skins are one of Epic Games’ biggest revenue streams, so naturally they try to limit the amount of free skins players can get their hands on. Sometimes Epic Games give codes away for free on social media, but it’s extremely rare for this to happen.

There’s a lot of scams out there claiming free skins, so we’d recommend staying away from code hunting outside official means. Thousands of players have fallen victim to scams advertising free V-Bucks, and scam websites that claim they can generate accounts with pre-loaded skins.

While not free per se, the most cost-effective way to obtain skins in Fortnite is by subscribing to the Fortnite Crew. For $11.99 per month, players receive a themed skin with matching cosmetics, as well as access to the Battle Pass. Furthermore, subscribers will receive 1000 bonus V-Bucks each month to go towards skins of their choice.

For the uninitiated, the Battle Pass allows players to complete challenges and earn XP to unlock a ton of cosmetic awards, including skins. Players who grind out the current Chapter 3, Season 3 Battle Pass in full will be able to unlock the Darth Vader skin, with many additional skins along the way.

How Will I Know When I Can Get Free Skins In Fortnite?

Anyone who’s active in the Fortnite community will struggle to miss when there’s a free Fortnite skin up for grabs. While free skins are available, you’ll likely find reminders and advertisements plastered all across Twitter, YouTube, and any other social media platforms you use.

Furthermore, if you login during a free-skin event, Epic Games will likely present a reminder as soon as you load up the game, so you shouldn’t worry about missing it.
