While World of Warcraft might not enjoy the same lofty heights as it did in the late 2000s, it’s still an incredibly popular game. WoW’s been going since 2004, and the fact that it’s still a giant in the MMORPG scene is a feat of strength indeed.
That being said, the most dedicated WoW players decide to take a break from the game every now and then, or even quit altogether. Common reasons for taking a break include waiting for the next expansion or content patch, the disbandment of guilds, or the simple desire to try other games.
Regardless of whether your break from the game is temporary or permanent, chances are you’ll want to uninstall WoW from your PC. Most MMORPGs take up a lot of space on your HDD or SSD, and with WoW coming in at over 70GB, it’s no exception.
There are a couple of ways to uninstall WoW from your PC—let’s take a look!
How to Uninstall WoW via the Battle.Net App
Uninstalling WoW via the Battle.Net app is the easiest way to get the job done. Follow the simple steps below to uninstall WoW from your PC:
Step 1. Open the Battle.Net app on your computer and login if necessary.
Step 2. Click the WoW Icon on the game selector bar at the top of the app. You can also click ‘All Games’ and then go to ‘My Games’. You will find WoW there, too.
Step 3.With WoW selected, click the cog icon to the right of the blue ‘Play’ button. Select ‘Uninstall’ from the menu. Click ‘Yes, Uninstall’ at the following pop-up.
How to Uninstall WoW Manually (PC)
If you’d prefer to uninstall WoW manually, that can be done with ease, too.
Step 1. Press the ‘Windows’ key and type ‘Control Panel’ into the search bar. Click ‘Control Panel’.
Step 2. Under ‘Programs’, select ‘Uninstall a program’.
Step 3. Right-click ‘‘World of Warcraft’ from the list of programs, and select ‘Uninstall / Change’. Select ‘Yes, Uninstall’ at the next pop up.
How to Unsubscribe From WoW
While some people pay for WoW for three months or six months at a time, a lot of players subscribe to the game on a month-by-month basis. Regardless of how you pay, it’s a good idea to cancel your subscription when you uninstall WoW, as you might end up paying for game time you don’t want.
Here’s how to unsubscribe from WoW:
Step 1. Open the Battle.Net app and click the Battle.Net icon at the top-right of the window. From the drop-down, select ‘My Account’.
(Note: Clicking ‘My Account’ will open your default browser.)
Step 2. Navigate to ‘Games & Subscriptions’ and find your active WoW subscription. Click ‘Manage’.
Step 3. Click ‘Cancel Subscription’ on the right-hand side of the screen.
Step 4. You’ll be given a cancellation survey, but you only have to answer the first question. Select your answer and then scroll to the bottom of the page and click ‘Continue’. Feel free to answer all the questions if you’d prefer!
Step 5. ‘Click Cancel my Subscription’. Remember that you’ll still be able to play WoW up until the stated date, even after you’ve unsubscribed.
Will I Lose My Progress?
Absolutely not! All of your WoW progress is tied to your account, so you don’t need to worry about losing progression when you uninstall or unsubscribe from WoW. If you feel the itch to return, your characters will be waiting for you, just as you left them.
