Steam is the biggest digital games distribution platform for PC. And while you can buy games and add funds directly on Steam, Valve has also made it easy for people who aren’t on the platform to purchase codes and gift cards for others who are.
If you have a code you want to redeem on Steam, but don’t know how, don’t worry. Here’s how to redeem codes on Steam.
How Do I Redeem Codes on Steam?
There are a couple different types of Steam codes, and a few different ways to redeem them. We’ll cover how to redeem both Steam wallet/gift card codes, and product activation codes.
How to Redeem Steam Wallet/Gift Card Codes in Steam PC App
If you have a Steam Wallet or gift card code, you can easily redeem it in the app. First, open up Steam and click on the Games tab in the top left corner of the window. Then, click on Redeem a steam Wallet Code….
Once the page loads, simply enter your Steam code into the box and click the Continue button. As long as you have a valid wallet or gift card code, the funds should be added to your wallet balance.
How to Redeem Product Activation Codes in Steam PC App
If you have a product activation code, redeeming the code in the Steam app is also easy. Start by clicking on Games in the top left corner of the screen. Now click on Activate a Product on Steam….
In the Product Activation window, click the Next button.
You’ll be shown the Steam Subscriber Agreement. Click on the I Agree button.
Now you can enter your product activation key in the box under Product Code. Enter the code, and then click Next, and you’re done!
How to Redeem Steam Codes on Steam Mobile App
If you want to redeem a Steam Wallet or gift card code on mobile, you can do so right in the app. However, if you want to activate a product key on mobile, you’ll need to do so in a web browser.
To redeem a wallet or gift card code, first open the app and tap the hamburger menu icon in the top left corner.
Next, tap on Store, then tap on Account Details.
On the Account Details page, tap on the Add funds to your Steam Wallet link.
On the Add Funds page, tap on Redeem a Steam Gift Card or Wallet Code link under the Your Steam Account heading.
Now put in your code in the box under Steam Wallet Code, and tap on the Continue button.
How to Redeem Steam Wallet/Gift Card Codes in a Web Browser
If you want to redeem a Steam Wallet or gift card in a web browser on your phone or PC, you’ll first need to go to Steam’s website and sign into your account. Then click on your username in the top right corner of the page, and click Account Details.
On your account page, click on Add funds to your Steam Wallet link under the Store & Purchase History heading.
On the right side of the add funds page, click the Redeem a Steam Gift Card or Wallet Code link under Your Steam Account.
Now add your code in the box under Steam Wallet Code. Once you’re finished, click Continue and your funds will be added to your Steam account.
How to Redeem Product Activation Codes in a Web Browser
If you want to redeem a product activation code for a Steam game on mobile or in your web browser, first go to this link to activate your code: https://store.steampowered.com/account/registerkey
Now enter the product activation key in the box under Product Code, check the box to agree to the Steam Subscriber Agreement, and click the Continue button.
Where Can I Get Steam Codes?
You can add funds and buy games directly from Steam. But if you want to buy a Steam wallet/gift card for a friend, or just snag a game code on the cheap, then sourcing them outside of Steam is an option.
For gift cards and wallet codes, you can usually find them at a variety of stores around the world, from 7-Eleven and Walgreens, to Walmart and Best Buy. In fact, Steam offers a list of places you can buy gift cards.
As for Steam game codes, there are plenty of gray marketplaces (like G2A and Kinguin), but they come with a risk (such as getting ripped off or having Steam revoke access to the games you buy codes for). However, there are also legitimate places you can snag game codes for cheap, such as Humble Bundle.
