APC is a notoriously strong technology company, catering to the top businesses around the world. They’ve developed a strong portfolio of projects such as working to build IT infrastructure and also developing data management systems

They’ve transitioned their experience from the software world into building tech items and they haven’t failed us yet.

The APC UPS Battery Backup & Surge Protector gives you the ability to plug into ten different devices. Five of these ten outlets provide battery backup and surge protection, meaning that the majority of your devices will be secure in the case of an emergency.

Currently, this device is priced at just under ~$170 without sale but if you’re looking for something more affordable, you can opt for the 1000VA option. It has only 8 ports with only 4 battery backups but at just under ~$130 without sale, you’re getting a great deal.

Our Runner-Up Pick:
CyberPower CP1500PFCLCD

CyberPower CP1500PFCLCD
  • Automatic Volt Reg.
  • 1500VA/900W
  • 10 Outlets
  • 3-Year Warranty

The CyberPower UPS is a strong runner up in the sense that, despite its relatively smaller VA potential, it’s still a great computer overall. Its lowest voltage computer is strong enough to power a house for an hour alone while their AVR–Automatic Voltage Regulation–can correct small fluctuations in power, preventing brownouts and extending battery life.

Furthermore, with eight outlets to plug to, the CyberPower UPS is perfect for blackouts. Sure, it doesn’t have the ten outlets that the APC has but eight is only two short of the ten that the APC has.

The CyberPower is also much smaller and more convenient than the other ones on this list. This makes it perfect for both houses and offices since it takes up less space and provides more return.

Best Portable UPS:
Tripp Lite INTERNET350U

  • 3-Year Warranty

Sometimes, work can be unconventional and you’ll need to take your work with you. You want to stay protected at all times and bringing a UPS is always a good idea. But with most power supplies being big and unconventional to move, it’s hard to find one nowadays that is portable and efficient.

The Tripp Lite is great in efficiency and in helping keep your data safe. Built more to look like a power strip than an actual UPS, the Tripp Lite INTERNET350U offers complete safety from blackouts, brownouts, and surges

Plus, with its compact size, you can fit it basically anywhere. You can put it in your backpack, squeeze it into your locker, throw it in a lunchbox–wherever you need it, the Tripp Lite can go.

It’s currently priced at mid fifties to sixties depending on the seller. What separates this one from the CyberPower budget pick is that the Tripp Lite is much more portable and doesn’t have as many features for the price it is being sold at.

Best Budget UPS:
CyberPower CP600LCD

CyberPower CP600LCD
  • GreenPower UPS
  • 600VA/340W
  • 8 Outlets
  • 3-Year Warranty

If you’re looking for something that’s a little more friendly on the wallet, the CyberPower CP600LCD is the best pick to go with. It gives the most bang for your buck and it’s definitely not going to be one of those cheap power supplies.

With a 600V system, you can expect strong power coming from this UPS. It also has the same number of outlets as the runner-up, the CyberPower CP1500PFCLCD. That means you’ll still be able to use it to the same efficiency as the other CyberPower power supplies.

You get four that are surge-protected and another four that have battery backup. Furthermore, with a GreenPower UPS, you’re going to cutting down on energy and heat consumption, two things that can mess with the efficiency of the system.

At a price ~$75, you’re getting an extremely good deal considering that this has most of the features of the CP1500PFCLCD and is also guaranteed a 3 year warranty. This means you won’t be having to break out the wallet anytime soon if something happens to it.

Honorable Mention #1:
AmazonBasics Standby

AmazonBasics Standby UPS 400VA 255W
  • Compact Size
  • 400VA/255W
  • 6 Outlets
  • 1-Year Warranty

The first of our honorable mentions goes to AmazonBasics’s simple but efficient UPS. With 6 outlets and a 400VA system, you’re guaranteed to get a good buy out of this. Like the Tripp Lite system mentioned before, this UPS is perfect for work anywhere.

You can take it to go work. You can use it at your local coffee shop. Heck, you can even use it when you’re looking to get work done at home. It has virtually everything the Tripp Lite had and even a little more in some cases.

However, due to the AmazonBasics only having a one year warranty for its item, the risk is high if you’re willing to take it. Everything else, though–from the small compact size to the 400VA system–makes it an item worth buying.

Honorable Mention #2:
CyberPower CP1500AVRLCD

CyberPower CP1500AVRLCD
  • Automatic Voltage Reg.
  • 1500VA/900W
  • 12 Outlets
  • 3-Year Warranty

The hardware world is mainly dominated by strong names like HP and Dell and the UPS market seems to be dominated by APC and CyberPower. But one standout is the Forza, a 750VA/375W system that is extremely durable.

It protects against unexpected surges and voltage irregularities as well as breakers and power backup in the case of a blackout. Furthermore, with a recharge time of 6 hours to near completion, you can depend on this to bring home the cake on projects that require time.

Of course, with a bulky build, this UPS can be hard to carry around and even harder to position. But at the price of $50, give or take, and an almost impenetrable protection system, it’s hard to not pass up the Forza.

Honorable Mention #3:
Forza UPS 750VA

Forza UPS 750VA
  • Protection Level 5
  • 750VA/375W
  • 6 Outlets
  • Voltage Regulation

This is one of the least expensive items on this list at $10, but do not let its price fool you. The ZRM&E is a small fan controller that is easy to install and can be used to split power to eight different fans.

This means that a single fan will not be overworked trying to cool your computer. It also means that this product works better if you have more fans at your disposal. The ZRM&E fan controller has metal and plastic components. It is only about 2 inches by 2 inches making it one of the smallest options available.

Its size makes it easy to fit into the majority of computers without any difficulties.

You will be able to connect it to your fans and the central unit of your computer with Molex or 4-pin connectors and a little bit of glue to ground it. After that, it is ready to go.

The ZRM&E fan controller also has three simplified speed settings to control your fans: off, low, and high. This is a good basic fan controller if you are on a budget. If you are looking with something with more features, the ZRM&E might not be the item for you.

Which UPS is the Best for Your Needs?

There are so many unpredictable things that can happen when you’re working on a project and because of this, you need something that can back you up when you need it. A UPS is perfect for this. It provides you protection against potential problems like, blackouts and unexpected shutdowns. But with so many uninterruptible power supplies to choose from, it can be hard to make the right decision.

We’ve given you the best choice for each possible scenario. In our opinion, the APC BX1500M is the best UPS overall. It provides great power, great utility, and even greater protection. If you’re looking for a budget-friendly option, the CyberPower CP600LCD is our choice for the top affordable UPS.

Ultimately, whether you need a high-end UPS or a cheap—but reliable—option, there should be an uninterruptible power supply listed above that will meet your needs.
