In this guide, we’ve reviewed a handful of the best motherboards for Intel’s Core i7-10700K processor. These motherboards are excellent options for gamers who are building an Intel-based system with Intel’s powerful eight-core CPU.
Thanks to their better single-core performance, Intel processors have long been considered the top CPU option for anyone who is looking to build a PC purely for gaming purposes. AMD has significantly closed the gap in single-core performance in the past three years with their new Ryzen CPUs. And, even with the slight single-core performance difference between AMD and Intel, the better multi-threaded performance that AMD’s Ryzen CPUs offer makes them a popular choice among gamers.
However, if you’re looking to build a high-end PC solely for gaming and you don’t want to spend the thousands necessary to build an extreme system, one nice high-end CPU option is Intel’s Core i7-10700K. With eight cores and sixteen threads, the i7-10700K will be able to handle any in-game scenario imaginable and will serve will in applications that can better use multi-threads as well.
If you do end up choosing the Intel Core i7-10700K, you’ll need a solid motherboard to pair it with. And, in this guide, we’ve covered some of the best motherboards for the i7-10700K. So, if you’re in the market for a new motherboard for your i7-10700K CPU, check out our recommendations below.

1. ASUS TUF Gaming Z490-Plus
Best motherboard for i7-10700K
While there are some really high-end Z490 chipset motherboards that will work with the Intel Core i7-10700K, those options are better suited for the more extreme Intel Core i9-10900K processor. At just under $400, the i7-10700K will pair much better with a ~$150-$250 budget.
And, fortunately, there are some great motherboards in that price range, including the ASUS TUF Gaming Z490-Plus.
The ASUS TUF Gaming Z490-Plus is a standard ATX motherboard that can support up to 128GB of RAM, features military-grade components, offers a ton of RGB lighting options, comes with USB 3.2 support, and sports a rugged-looking design. It also comes with and advanced power design, which will make it a good option for anyone who is looking to get higher-than-normal overclocks out of ther i7-10700K.
Ultimately, though, the ASUS TUF Gaming Z490-Plus represents the best of both worlds: a high-end feature-packed overclocking-friendly motherboard that won’t break the bank. And, because of that, we consider it one of the best motherboard options for the Intel Core i7-10700K.
2. ASUS Prime Z490-A
Best white motherboard for i7-10700K
Another high-end motherboard option for the i7-10700K is the ASUS Prime Z490-A. This motherboard will be particularly appealing to anyone who is looking to build a white-themed gaming PC.
The ASUS Prime Z490-A features white heatsinks and a white pre-installed I/O shield to help it mesh well with all-white PC builds. The motherboard will support up to 128GB of DDR4 memory, it comes in a standard ATX form-factor, and it offers dual M.2 slots. It also features a high-end power design, making it another solid choice for overclockers.
Its pricetag does come in a bit higher than the ASUS TUF Z490 board listed above, but if you need a motherboard that has white aesthetics, this is an excellent alternative.
3. GIGABYTE Z490I AORUS Ultra
Our top mini-ITX pick for the i7-10700K
For those of you that are looking to put your i7-10700K into a small form-factor gaming PC, one high-end mini-ITX motherboard option you have is the GIGABYTE Z490I AORUS Ultra.
This mini-ITX board comes with a sleek all-black design, a pre-installed I/O shield, an M.2 heatsink/heatpipes, and plenty of RGB lighting features. With two DIMM slots, this board can support up to 64GB of DDR4 memory.
Its 8-phase power design will also make it a decent option for overclocking your i7-10700K.
Overall, if you want to build a high-end mini-ITX gaming computer and you’re looking for a feature-packed motherboard to pair with your i7-10700K, this Gigabyte motherboard is worth considering. If you don’t need as many features and you don’t mind opting for a less aesthetically-pleasing motherboard, you could always opt for the much cheaper ASRock mini-ITX Z490 motherboard listed in the Honorable Mentions section below.
4. MSI MPG Z490 Gaming Plus
Best budget motherboard for the i7-10700K
While the Z490 chipset is the premium chipset among LGA 1200 motherboards, there are a few options that come in under ~$175. And, in our opinion, one of the best value motherboard options for the Intel Core i7-10700K right now is the MSI MPG Z490 Gaming Plus.
At ~$170, it is one of the more affordable Z490 chipset motherboards out there. And, despite its lower cost it does come with a fancier design (an all-black PCB, extra heatsinks, and a pre-installed I/O shield).
If you don’t mind opting for a less appealing design, though, the ASUS Prime Z490M-PLUS micro-ATX motherboard listed below can be had for ~$20 less.
Overall, the feature set, the nicer design, and the lower pricetag help make the MSI MPG Z490 Gaming Plus our pick for the best value motherboard for the i7-10700K.
5. GIGABYTE Z490 AORUS Master
Honorable mention #1
If you do want to consider a more extreme motherboard option for your i7-10700K, you might want to take a look at the GIGABYTE Z490 AORUS Master. At a little over ~$350, the GIGABYTE Z490 AORUS Master is by far the most expensive motherboard on this list. And, in reality, it is probably better suited to be paired with an i9-10900K.
But, if you want the superior overclocking potential and the much more extreme-looking design the Z490 AORUS Master will deliver what you’re looking for.
If it were us, though, we’d take the ~$150 savings by opting for the ASUS TUF motherboard listed at the top of this page and use that extra money to upgrade other components in our build. Because, ultimately, if you have the budget to jump up to this motherboard, you probably should be looking at the i9-10900K instead.
6. ASRock Z490M-ITX
Honorable mention #2
A more affordable option for gamers who are looking to build a mini PC, is the ASRock Z490M-ITX. While the ASRock Z490M-ITX doesn’t have as nice of a design as the Gigabyte mini-ITX motherboard listed above, nor does it have as many features, it does come in at nearly ~$75 less.
Like the GIGABYTE Z490I AORUS Ultra, this ASRock mini-ITX motherboard sports a Z490 chipset, PCIe 3.0 technology, can support up to 64GB of RAM, and offers decent overclocking potential. However, it is as stripped down of a Z490 chipset board as you’ll find.
But, for most gamers who are just looking for a decent motherboard to pair with their i7-10700K, this mini-ITX motherboard will get the job done. And, with the ~$75 difference between it and the GIGABYTE Z490I AORUS Ultra, there is the potential to upgrade other important components (like your GPU, or memory.)
7. ASUS Prime Z490M-PLUS
Honorable mention #3
- Z490 Chipset
- PCIe 3.0
- 64GB DDR4 RAM
Another budget-friendly motherboard option for the i7-10700K is the ASUS Prime Z490M-PLUS. This is a micro-ATX motherboard that can hold up to 64GB of DDR4 memory, offers decent overclocking potential, sports PCIe 3.0 technology, dual M.2 slots, and USB 3.2 support.
This motherboard is about as basic as you can get for a Z490 chipset, though, so you shouldn’t expect anything extreme out of it.
However, if you’re opting for a micro-ATX case or you just want to save some money to use towards other components, this option should work just fine in the grand scheme of things.
